Modern Slavery Statement

Legal and Risk

Our Commitment

CSNSW is pleased to share its fifth Modern Slavery Statement. A highlight from the Statement is the creation of the Modern Slavery Working Group, a group with several tasks including raising awareness of the reality of modern slavery and guiding the development and implementation of CSNSW’s modern slavery action plan.

The Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) came into effect on 1 January 2019. The Act aims at reducing instances of modern slavery by requiring certain companies to report on their mechanisms for detecting and preventing modern slavery and their supply chains. CSNSW has opted into the scheme, demonstrating a commitment to bringing hope to those in slavery and to respecting human dignity.

This year, 2025, is a Jubilee year of Hope for the Catholic Church. In this Jubilee year, a special focus must be given to the source of hope. Pope Benedict XVI wrote: “Jesus, who himself died on the Cross, brought…an encounter with the Lord of all lords, an encounter with the living God and thus an encounter with a hope stronger than the sufferings of slavery, a hope which therefore transformed life and the world from within.”

CSNSW hopes and prays that, through the redeeming love of Christ, all people might find freedom from the suffering of slavery in all its forms.
