The formal process to establish a School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT)

  1. Student approaches the school requesting an SBAT be established with an employer.
  2. The school follows diocesan or RI/MPJP processes to ensure:
    1. HSC requirements are met
    2. School’s duty of care
  3. Complete the SBAT Training Plan Proposal (TPP) in consultation with stakeholders:
    1. Student
    2. Employer
    3. Parents/Carers
    4. School
    5. Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to complete school-based component
    6. RTO2 if applicable, to complete post-school component
    7. Apprentice Connect Australia Provider (ACAP)
  4. Share the TPP with stakeholders.

The SBAT TPP provides the details needed for the next steps:

  • ACAP creates the Training Contract for employer and student to sign
  • ACAP registers the apprenticeship/traineeship through Training Services
  • RTO creates the Training Plan
