2025 Connected Catholic Communities Symposium (Ref:129/25)

How is your school community engaging with and responding to the increasingly contextual complexity of students’ and families’ lives?
Meeting students and families where they are is an opportunity for collective success both within and beyond the school gate. The 2025 Symposium in August will continue the conversation on how we can further connect for impact!

'We need to be bold and audacious – and we need to step into the needs of the community and the way modern families see our schools and what they need from them.'
Catholic School Leader

Join your NSW Catholic communities in August as we together re-imagine services and work in and for our school communities!

This year’s Symposium theme - Connected for Impact - continues our journey of exploring and advancing opportunities to build impactful partnerships, both within and beyond the school gate.

  • If students are genuinely at the heart of a holistic Catholic education, what relationships, services, support and resources are integral to young people’s flourishing?
  • If families increasingly ask schools to support them to meet complex needs and circumstances, how might appropriate and responsive services or support be alternatively accessed/provided in a sustainable way for school workforces?
  • Which services and support do schools find themselves providing now that feel outside of their current levels of expertise or capacity?

SOURCE: Reimagining Services and Work in Schools - Transformational opportunities for the community, students, and workforce (2024)

CSNSW invites you to extend this invitation to all those interested in creating flourishing educational communities, including parent bodies, pre/post-school partners, parishes, Catholic social services, health providers and others – as together we explore:

  • our collective impact on school connectedness
  • building strategic partnerships
  • creating a sustainable culture in school communities
  • extended service school model
  • case studies from our own communities and beyond

I was impressed with the planning, delivery and professionalism... I am very keen to see the concept of "Schools as Hubs" for our Connected Catholic Communities and see this as where the future of our Catholic Church, not just schools, needs to move to.

Parli-Flicks Short Film Award 2025 - Entries now Open! (Ref: 125/25)

Entries are now open for the Parli-Flicks Short Film Award!

Students across the State are invited by NSW Parliament to create a one-minute film that explores democracy and the role of parliament.

The democratic system in Australia is based on the Westminster system, originating from the UK. This system requires citizens to elect representatives to parliament who make decisions on their behalf. Our Australian parliament depends on us to be participants at different levels, not just voting in elections.

This competition allows students to learn more of the importance of Australia's Democratic system, and to think about what that means to them.

For the 2025 NSW Parliament, students are asked to answer the question: ‘What do I value about democracy?’

Entries close on 8 August 2025.

Prizes and awards night for the finalists will be held at the Parliament of NSW in Sydney.

The overall winner will be presented with the Parli-Flicks 2025 trophy.

2026 Annual RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Art Competition (Ref: 119/25)

Entries for the 2026 Annual RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Art Competition are now open!

The annual RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Commemoration began in 1953 as a collaboration event between RSL and the Department of Education and has since expanded to Catholic Schools NSW and the Association of Independent Schools NSW. The Art competition started in 2023 to mark the 70th Anniversary of the ANZAC Commemoration and has been held every year since.

The service is held to educate students about Australia's military history, whilst paying respect to the service and sacrifice of servicemen and women of the Australian Defence Force. The service is delivered entirely by students, including the master of ceremonies, keynote address, readings and musical accompaniment.

Students have the chance to have their artwork displayed at the ANZAC Memorial in April 2026 and included in the 2026 service program. Past programs showcase poppies, the Cobbers sculpture at the Australian Memorial Park, and ANZACS at Gallipoli.

Entries close on 31 October, and finalists will be announced on 14 November 2025.
