Tickets now available! 2026 Education Law Symposium (Ref: 70/26)

Catholic Schools NSW invites you to register for the 2026 Education Law Symposium, to be held at the Hilton Hotel Sydney on Monday, 6 July.

The theme of this year's symposium is Catholic School Governance: Stewardship and Service. 

We encourage leaders across Catholic education, including professionals involved in managing and governing Catholic schools, systems, and agencies, to attend.

The event will be an enriching professional development experience, delivering the latest policy and regulatory updates, and reflections on governance and Mission leadership.

This year's symposium will include keynote addresses and panel sessions on:

  • Safeguarding
  • Staff wellbeing, duty of care, managing risk
  • Created and Loved
  • Codes of conduct, hate speech regulations, fit and proper person requirements
  • Technology and AI
  • Not-for-profit requirements.

Tickets for the Symposium are $295, with payment required upon registration.

Keynote Speakers Announced! 2026 CSNSW Behaviour and Diverse Learning Symposium (Ref: 69/26)

The 2026 CSNSW Behaviour and Diverse Learning Symposium will be held on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 May at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney. The Symposium will address topics including bullying, antisemitism and social cohesion, school security, wellbeing and pastoral care, student behaviour, and supporting students with diverse learning needs.

Day One (Monday 4 May) of the Symposium will focus on School Safety, covering topics such as the NSW Anti-bullying Framework, antisemitism and social cohesion, and school security. This day is aimed at Diocesan Directors, system leaders, wellbeing leaders, heads of counselling, safeguarding leads, and principals, and will feature a keynote address from Emeritus Professor Donna Cross and Peter Moroney (Nemesis Consultancy). In addition, the program will include diocesan and RI/MPJP Catholic school case studies, panel discussions, and table discussions with ample time for Q&A.

Day Two (Tuesday 5 May) will address a range of topics including wellbeing and pastoral care, anti-bullying, student behaviour, diverse learning, and school safety. The programme will feature keynote presentations from Tom Bennett OBE (International Behaviour Expert and Author), Dr Mark Williams (Internationally Renowned Neuroscientist), and Stina Constantine (International Speaker, Human Rights Advocate, and Wellbeing Expert). Other distinguished speakers at the symposium include: Dr Shiralee Poed, Dr John Burns, Bryan Jeffrey, Dr Michael Casey, Shawn van der Linden, Kate Xavier, and Rev. Adrian Gomez. The day consists of four workshop streams for attendees to choose from, including: Consent and Respectful Relationships Education (CRRE), Countering Violent Extremism (CVE), Diverse Learning, and Mental Health/Pastoral Care. This day is designed for a broad audience, including school and Diocesan leaders, diverse learning specialists, wellbeing staff, school counsellors & psychologists, pastoral support staff, and principals.

Date and time: 8:30am Monday 4 May 2026 - 4:00pm Tuesday 5 May.

New 7–12 curriculum support materials

New resources are available to support teachers delivering the following reformed syllabuses:

  • Years 7–10: Child Studies, Food Technology, Geography Elective, History Elective, Photography, Film and Digital Media, Visual and Motion Design.
  • Years 11–12: Chemical World Science Life Skills, Geography, Geography Life Skills.

Resources include sample units, sample scope and sequences, outcomes worksheets, teaching advice, teacher guides and Aboriginal Education support.

NESA online professional learning for K–6 teachers

A primary curriculum overview professional learning course is available to support teachers in strengthening their understanding of the NSW primary curriculum.

The course introduces the structure of the K–6 syllabuses and the evidence base that informed their development, including the importance of vocabulary and language development. 

The following K–6 professional learning courses are also available:

  • Creative Arts
  • Human society and its Environment
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Science and Technology

WriteOn 2026

NESA’s annual writing competition for NSW primary students in Years 1 to 6 is now open for submissions.

Held in association with the State Library of NSW, the competition is an exciting opportunity for students to express their ideas.

Selected students will become published authors in The Best of WriteOn anthology and be celebrated at the WriteOn Awards Ceremony at the State Library of NSW later this year.

How to get involved

Students use the stimulus quote below to create an imaginative text of up to 500 words:

New CRICOS PEO ‘fit and proper’ statutory declaration

NESA’s template for the CRICOS PEO fit and proper statutory declaration has been updated to reflect the recent changes to the Education Services for Overseas Students Act (ESOS Act).

The revised ESOS Act came into effect in December 2025 and includes changes relating to education agents and agent commissions, and fit and proper provider requirements.

The National Code of Practice was also amended in January 2026 to introduce a ban on commission payments to education agents in relation to onshore transfers.

NESA is currently revising the Guidelines for Approved NSW School Providers Delivering Courses to Overseas Students (CRICOS Guidelines) to reflect these legislative changes and will publish the revised CRICOS Guidelines soon.

Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) (NSW) presentation ceremony

On Sunday 8 March 2026, AMEB (NSW) held their annual presentation ceremony at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to celebrate exam excellence in 2025. 

The event, hosted by the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Prof. Anna Reid, recognised 254 students and teachers for their exceptional achievements in performing arts. 

Private teachers, music studios, and schools were also recognised for their outstanding exam results.

Save the Date: 2027 Catholic Schools NSW Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Conference – 19 & 20 October 2027 (Ref: 30/26)

Save the date! Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW) with the Diocese of Broken Bay, will be co-hosting the CSNSW Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Conference on 19 and 20 October 2027. The conference is set to be held at the beautiful Manly Pacific on the shores of the Pacific Ocean on the traditional homeland of the Gayemagal people of the greater Eora Nation.

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) 2026 (Ref: 67/26)

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is an annual, collaborative campaign designed to promote the importance of protecting personal information. In particular, it raises awareness about privacy rights, compliance with the Privacy Act, and best practices for safeguarding data. 

PAW is run by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in conjunction with state and territory privacy regulators. 

This year PAW will be held from 4 - 10 May 2026. 

This year’s theme, Trust is built here – In every privacy complaint. In every resolution, highlights the critical role complaint handling plays in demonstrating accountability, fairness and accountability. PAW supporters will have access to our toolkit, released in advance of PAW. It will have a range of resources and content to help raise awareness and promote good privacy practices.

Applications now open! 2026 Schools Plus Teaching Awards (Ref: 65/26)

Applications have opened for the 2026 Schools Plus Teaching Awards, a national initiative celebrating teachers who are making a meaningful impact in some of Australia’s most disadvantaged communities.

The Schools Plus Teaching awards recognise educators who extend far beyond everyday teaching responsibilities. From helping students overcome learning barriers to creating supportive classrooms for learning, these teachers play a crucial role in helping young people thrive. In many cases, they are a consistent source of guidance and encouragement, influencing students’ lives in ways that reach well beyond academic achievement.

Not only does the award acknowledge the individual, but also their knowledge and experience on best practice and innovation. 

Important dates for 2026:

  • Applications close: 8 May 2026, 5:00pm AEST 
  • Recipients announced: June 2026 
  • Awards ceremony: 15 September 2026 at Parliament House, Canberra 

Teachers are encouraged to apply and be acknowledged for the difference they make every day.

Apply now for the NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships (Ref: 47/26)

Successful applicants will receive $15,000 to complete a 5-week study tour within Australia or abroad. Participants will have the opportunity to visit the most acclaimed schools and centres for teaching and training and collaborate with professionals in a key focus area to inspire positive outcomes for students in NSW schools.

If you are a current temporary or permanent teacher or in an early childhood centre in a Catholic school in NSW, you may be eligible to apply.
