VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year Award 2025 Winner: Penny Mackay (Ref: 306/25)
Penny Mackay’s own VET journey began as an apprentice chef, where she experienced first-hand the transformative power of vocational education. After a successful career in the hospitality industry, she felt driven to give back to her region and to the young people in her community. Completing a Bachelor of Education, specialising in Food Technology, allowed Penny to bring together deep industry expertise with a passion for teaching and service.
As VET Coordinator at Kildare Catholic College, Penny is truly living that vision. Her hospitality and business programs continue to grow, shaped by innovative, industry-aligned learning experiences and a highly personalised approach that ensures every student feels valued, supported and empowered to pursue their goals. With plans underway to expand the College’s VET offerings, Penny is a passionate champion of vocational pathways for her students and her wider community.
Penny’s award win follows a remarkable year for CSNSW, which claimed all three school sector awards at the NSW Training Awards in September, and secured an outstanding 16 of the 19 medals won by the NSW Schools team at the WorldSkills National Championships in Brisbane in June. Together, these achievements highlight the exceptional quality of VET delivery across Catholic schools and the dedication of educators like Penny who are shaping confident, skilled and future-ready graduates.
